Welcome To Arusha National Park

It’s a gorgeous, almost magical place – Arusha National Park, northeast of Arusha town and just 50 kilometres from the international Kilimanjaro Airport. Black-and-white Colobus monkeys jump through the treetops with ease, elegant giraffes wander across the open savannah, and beautiful flamingos stand tall in the shallow Momella Lakes while Mt Meru calmly overlooks the goings-on.

Arusha National Park is often overlooked, and travellers wonder if they may see much wildlife: Absolutely you will! It is a diverse and lush park and home to giraffes, hippos, buffaloes as well as fish eagles and flamingos. You can even go on a canoe trip and a walking safari! A hidden gem, just around the corner from Arusha.

Compared to Tarangire or Serengeti National Park, the Arusha National Park…

Best time to go to Arusha National Park

  1. For wildlife viewing and hiking
  • Dry Season (June to October): This is the most popular time due to pleasant weather and easier wildlife spotting, as animals congregate around water sources.
  • Short Rains (December to March): These months also provide good conditions for wildlife viewing.

2. Hiking Mount Meru: The dry seasons of June to October and December to February are considered the best times for climbing, offering clearer views of the mountain.

3. For birdwatching and scenic beauty

Wet Season (November to May): This period is ideal for birdwatching, as it attracts migratory birds. The park is also at its most lush and green, making it very scenic.

2. Other considerations

  • Year-round access: The park is open and accessible throughout the year, regardless of the season.
  • Less crowded: The wet season may be less crowded, offering a more serene experience with potential discounts.
  • Packing: During the dry season, pack warm layers for chilly mornings, especially for early game drives.
