Overview
Nyerere National Park is the new largest national park in Africa. Established in 2019, it covers over 30,000 square kilometers with relatively undisturbed ecological and biological processes, including a diverse range of wildlife. The Rufiji River flows to the Indian Ocean and has been designated as an eco-photo tourist sight for its hippos and rhinos. Visitors are drawn by these animals as well as by other inhabitants like giraffes and elephants that are in Nyerere National Park’s ecosystem.

Tour Itinerary
Our professional driver will pick you up you from the hotel to Nyerere National Park. On arrival, you will be taken by to the lodge or camp for relaxation. Later, you will go on the village walking tour with our professional guide to see various activities conducted by the villagers and learn about their culture. After the tour, you will return to the lodge or camp for lunch.
In the afternoon from 4:00 pm to sunset, you will do a boat safari tour of the biggest and longest river in Tanzania, the Rufiji River. It is approximately 600 kilometers (370 miles) long, with its source in southwestern Tanzania and its mouth in the Indian Ocean. The river has many attractions including crocodiles, hippos, river cliffs, birds, and more.

After breakfast, from 7:30 am until the evening, you will go on a full-day game drive in Nyerere National Park (formerly known as Selous Game Reserve). The journey will start from the Lodge where you will be picked up by our professional drivers and guides. Today, you will get to see various animals including elephants, zebras, giraffes, antelopes and more. You will also see birds, and landscape scenery with varied topography including wetlands, dry grassland, light acacia forest, and higher ground with vast views of far-off mountains.
In the afternoon, you will enjoy a packed lunch and take some time to rest, then continue with the game drive. In the evening, you will return to the lodge for dinner and sleep, and prepare for the next day.

After breakfast at your lodge, you will enjoy another full-day game view along the Rufiji River. Rufiji River is hippo-filled, and the lakes are fringed with palm trees. The park covers an area of over 30,000 square kilometres. Nyerere is, after all, home to one of the biggest lion populations in Africa. Lion, elephant, zebra, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, buffalo, wildebeest—you’re almost guaranteed to see plenty of these. It’s also a good place to see African wild dogs and leopards, but these are harder to find. Wherever you look, the backdrop to all these animals is always beautiful. The rocky hills rise over parts of the reserve, the Rufiji. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Mloka Safari Lodge or similar.
