Your safari adventure begins with an early morning departure from Dar es Salaam, heading to Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve). The journey by road takes approximately 5 to 6 hours, passing through scenic rural landscapes and traditional villages. Upon arrival at the park, you’ll check in at your lodge or tented camp and enjoy a delicious lunch. In the late afternoon, embark on a boat safari along the Rufiji River, one of Africa’s largest rivers. This relaxing yet thrilling experience offers close encounters with hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and a variety of birds such as kingfishers and fish eagles. The river’s stunning scenery, especially at sunset, provides a magical start to your safari. After the boat safari, return to your camp for dinner and overnight, surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the African wilderness. After an early breakfast, you’ll head out for an exciting full-day game drive through Nyerere National Park—a vast, wild landscape that feels like stepping back in time. Formerly known as the Selous Game Reserve, this is one of Africa’s largest protected areas, teeming with wildlife and still blissfully untouched by crowds.
As you journey through its rich mix of woodlands, savannahs, swamps, and lakes, your expert guide will help you spot a variety of animals—elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalos, impalas, and wildebeests are commonly seen. With luck, you might even catch a glimpse of lions, leopards, or the rare and elusive African wild dogs. The park is also a bird lover’s dream, home to over 440 bird species.
Midday, you’ll pause for a relaxing picnic lunch in the heart of the bush, soaking in the stillness and beauty of the wild. After lunch, the adventure continues with more wildlife sightings as the afternoon light bathes the landscape in golden hues.

The drive takes approximately 6 to 7 hours, offering scenic views of the Tanzanian countryside, small villages, and rolling hills along the way. You’ll enjoy a packed or roadside lunch en route, depending on timing and your guide’s recommendations. Upon arrival at Mikumi in the afternoon, check in at your lodge or tented camp and take some time to rest or refresh. If time allows, embark on a short introductory game drive in the park to get a first glimpse of Mikumi’s beautiful landscape and resident wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, antelopes, and a variety of birds. Return to your accommodation in the evening for a hot dinner and overnight stay, preparing for a full exploration of the park the following day.

Your last day begins with an early morning game drive in Mikumi National Park, making the most of the cool hours when animals are most active. As the sun rises over the Uluguru Mountains, keep your eyes peeled for elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, and a variety of antelope species moving gracefully across the open plains.
After an exciting morning in the wild, you’ll return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast and check-out. From there, begin your scenic drive back to Dar es Salaam—a journey of around 5 to 6 hours through rolling hills, rural villages, and lush countryside.
You’ll arrive in Dar es Salaam by late afternoon or early evening. Depending on your plans, you’ll be dropped off at your hotel, residence, or the airport, marking the end of your incredible 4-day Southern Tanzania safari.
