Overview
Selous (Nyerere National Park)covers 5% of Tanzania’s total land area and is approximately 54,600sq km. Selous is Africa’s largest wild life reserve and Tanzania’s most extensive protected area. Selous provide shelter for large numbers of elephants, lions, big populations of buffaloes, wild dogs, crocodiles and hippopotamus. Rufiji River also has a lot of bird life. The reserve was named after one of the famous British people but nowadays Selous Game Reserve is called Nyerere National Park.
